In sports science, they refer to this as Self-Efficacy, or one’s belief in there ability to carry out a specific task. So your confidence on a rock type you are very familiar with will be far higher than when you are visiting a new rock type or style of climbing for the first time. By limiting this to a specific type or style of climbing you can work on developing your confidence through one of four pathways.

  1. Previous Experince
  2. Vicarious Experience
  3. Verbal Persuasion
  4. Arousal
